1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Nebraska Library Commission, Crane Room

  1. Review of state web portal redesign. [Anna Nielsen, Creative Content Designer, Nebraska.gov]

Anna took the group on a tour of the new state web portal redesign, which launched on June 2. Along the way, she discussed the rationale behind the functionality and asthetic of the new portal. The functionality is designed to be user-centric, developed with user testing by members of the public and state agencies. Consistent design elements, task-oriented content, and implementation of new technologies have made the new design a true "link farm." It's designed get visitors to the right place within about two mouseclicks. The new color scheme is based on color analysis and features a dark background to reduce eye-strain. "Non-action" text is in white, blue is used for skimming "action" or "task-oriented" text, and gold is used for "informational" text.

Also present from Nebraska.gov to answer questions from the group were Brent Hoffman, General Manager, and Jennifer Rasmussen, Project Manager. They discussed content and design issues that will continue to be refined following the launch of the new portal and encouraged the group to email all questions, comments, and suggestions to Nebraska.gov so they can continue to improve the site.

  2. Marketing Email.

The group discussed strategies for an agency email marketing campaign to follow up to the Nebraska Webmaster Group article published in the April/May Statehouse Observer. The OCIO will allow us to direct a one-time email, at no charge, to their "All Agencies, Boards, and Commissions" email group.

The Chair requested meeting attendees to submit their ideas for the content of the marketing email to him by the end of June. A draft email will then be passed back to the group for response and revision prior to sending the email out.

  3. Continued Nominations and Vote for Chair-Elect.

Juli Jurgens (OCIO) was unable to accept nomination for Chair-Elect, therefore nominations are still open.

  4. Miscellaneous.

    1. Since Nebraska.gov has decided to maintain a web page that links to Official Nebraska Government Security, Privacy & Accessibility web pages, there was no need to consider an update to Section 7.0 of the NITC Branding and Policy Consistency standard.
    2. Locating and posting old meeting minutes of the Nebraska Webmasters' Group (1998 – 2002) to the web site. Discussion Postponed.
